Dr. Saponaro is the founder and CEO of A.I. Whoo LLC, a data-driven, Artificial Intelligence company aimed to improve population-level health outcomes through artificially intelligent solutions. Dr. Saponaro’s research aims to improve machine learning techniques to assess and improve physical activity.
At the University of Delaware, he received his Ph.D. in developing machine learning techniques for just-in-time adaptive interventions using multiple real-time input sensors (e.g. wearables and mobile devices). Through his Artificial Intelligence startup, A.I. Whoo LLC, he has developed computer vision models, through the consulting arm, to assess scooter counts and detect insects from raw video footages.
These projects have led to Artificial Intelligence-based products, such as GoVision and COVIDVision (NSF Funded). The fundamental object counting properties have proven useful when utilizing these experiences for park assessments in his research team’s recent journal publication (JMPB 2020) on automated video analysis of parks.
